Rodgers is Shoreline Teacher of the Year
With the upcoming celebration of Teacher Appreciation Day 2009 and Teacher Appreciation Week 2009 in the US and other countries in Europe many educators are now receiving their awards as outstanding teachers of the year.
This time the awardee is Kevin Rodgers, Brookside Elementary School library media specialist in Lake Forest Park. He was selected as the Shoreline School District Teacher for 2008-2009. It was formally announced during the Brookside special assembly, according to the report reaching this website. Rodgers will receive his award and honor on April 27 before the school board meeting will be conducted. It was learned that all the school’s community will grace the said occasion as the District is going to celebrate its own version of Teacher Appreciation Week 2009 on May 4-8.
The Shoreline School hired Rodgers in 1990. He started his teaching career in sixth grade while at Briarcrest Elementary School. After three years he finally transferred to Brook side. His good performance paved the way for his promotion in 1996 as library media specialist.
The nomination committee nominated and finally decided to honor him the most prestigious ward given to a teacher because of his very outstanding performance as an educator. It said that “Mr Rodgers is highly regarded by parents, students and staff as he excelled in the art of teaching. He is very instrumental in introducing technology in Brookside. It was during his term that the school has set up its first computer laboratory, lead in the maintenance of KINGS5 weather station as well as he also continually supported all aspects of technology in Brookside. He also established the field trips for sixth graders which is highly regarded event which promotes bonding from the teachers and students.
The school’s Safety Patrol Program would not have been very successful without the active leadership of Rodgers by organizing the student pick up system and other strategies to create a good flow of traffic within the school. In fact, this system was emulated by other schools in the district that has seen its very effective implementation. This means Rodgers is really doing his job as an educator and a leader in the community. This also that Kevin Rodgers is really fit for recognition during teacher appreciation programs.
