Sole Purpose Why Teacher Appreciation Day is celebrated

Monday, November 28th, 2011

Have you ever wondered why Teacher Appreciation Day is annually celebrated especially for teachers? Yes, we all know teaching is a special kind of profession, and we honestly couldn’t deny that. But I was also wondering, why don’t we celebrate Engineer Appreciation Day or Doctor Appreciation Day? Why is it that when it comes to teachers, we always have a soft spot in our hearts?

In my country, teachers are considered to be the modern heroes of today. Our country acknowledges the bravery of the people in our past, especially when those people fought for my country’s liberty and independence. We were once a captured nation during the late 18 hundreds, but thanks to them we are now considered free. As of today, the heroes that we now recognized are the teachers.

Teaching is honestly not a very easy job, frankly speaking. Some may took this profession for granted and even mock at the position the status quo has placed in it. Worse, there are even some who doesn’t pay the necessary wage worthy of the teaching career. They think teaching is a low-class occupation. It provides little amount of salary; has to deal with mischievous kids all the time; talk to blabbering parents; and even get accused of libel for pointing out that your student did not make his assignment. Not a very encouraging situation, isn’t it?

But some teachers still continue to pursue such profession because most believe that teaching is not just what you’ve learned in college. It’s actually what you are passionate with. If someone is passionate about teaching, that person is not motivated with the biggest salary, or even discouraged having undisciplined students. When teachers are teachers for real, they are able to withstand all these circumstances. Yes, thankful are the teachers for the big salary, (they honestly deserve it anyway), but real teachers are not stimulated for money. They are motivated with their passion to impart knowledge; to grow kids into responsible and law-abiding citizens; to shape the future of their students. Engineers build buildings, businessmen build investments, but teachers are actually the builders of all these builders as well. Teachers build engineers, businessmen, doctors, and all kinds of profession. That’s the best part of being a teacher.

That’s why teachers have their own special day. They deserve such teacher appreciation. If you’re thinking of protesting, think again.

Teacher Poems as Ways to Say Thank You to Teachers

Friday, November 25th, 2011

Teachers really have multi-faceted roles. They can be a teacher, but they can also be a parent, a mentor, a disciplinarian, a friend, a shoulder to cry on, a lunch date, etc. That’s why on Teacher’s Day, teachers can be appreciated in various ways as well. Teacher poems, for example, are recommended as the simplest but most heart whelming teacher appreciation gift ideas.

Looking for poems to appreciate your teachers? Here are four on the lists.

My Teacher
- Maryam Mashhadi

Thank you, my teacher, for being there
At times when skies were gray

Thank you, my teacher, for lending an ear
When I had things to say
You showered love on me lavishly
When no one seemed to care
You brought me joys untold
To fill my heart with moments of gold
I would have felt isolated and lonely
If you had not been there
I lack the words to let you know
How much you mean to me,
But I will profusely thank God for you
Until the Eternity.

Teacher Appreciation Poem
- Author Unknown

T is for talented that you surely are
E is for explaining so patiently
A is for the ability to make the class fun
C is for correcting us when we were wrong
H is for helping us in every way
E is for encouraging us to do our best
R is for rare, there is only one of you!
So thank you special teacher; we think you’re great too!

Tribute To A Teacher
- Myrna Beth Lambert

We held their hands the first day of school.
Our hearts were filled with pride.
There was an aura of fear and apprehension
As we stood close to their side.

We deposited our children at your door,
Our most precious and prized possessions.
We trusted that you would give them more
Then Reading and Writing lessons.

Our unspoken words were, give them self worth.
They are little children, respect their rights.
Teach them with love and remember compassion.
Use a firm hand to break up their fights.

As the years went by, you did us proud
With your guiding hand and understanding smile.
You gave much more then we expected.
That was your way, your undeniable style.

What higher tribute can we pay a teacher?
To what greater heights can he ascend?
Than to have his students praise his work,
And to say “He is my friend.”

You Are My Special Teacher
- Author Unknown

You are my special teacher
I just want you to know
I always had fun in your class
How the time has flown!

Thank you for helping me
To learn all that I know
I will always remember you
Even when I’m grown!

I’ll miss you being my teacher
I know the reason why
I am feeling very sad
Because it’s time to say goodbye

Funny Poetry as Funny Teacher Appreciation Gifts

Here are some that would make you feel tickled.

English Lecture Coma
- James Grengs

I think I know
What it feels like to slip into a coma.
I am sitting,
My teacher is rambling,
And my senses are going.
Slowly,
I slip
Into
Darkness…

Bored To Death
- Leila Light

I am in class taking anatomy & physiology lecture
Oh! I am so tired I can not even stare at the teacher
He is so talkative & talks too much, as he has a PHD in literature
I can not even take a note, I do not care
I can not wait to see him walk out through the door.
Monday is always boring
But, not as boring as that old slim teacher, who moves like a string
I can’t take it anymore shall ask permission

Where do all the teachers go?
- Peter Dixon

Where do all the teachers go
When its four o’clock?
Do they live in houses
And do they wash their socks?

Do they wear pajamas?
And do they watch TV?
And do they pick their noses
The same as you and me?

Do they live with other people
Have they mums and dads?
And were they ever children
And were they ever bad?

Did they ever, never spell right
Did they ever make mistakes?
Were they punished in the corner
If they pinched the chocolate flakes?

Did they ever lose their hymn books
Did they ever leave their greens?
Did they ever scribble on the desktop
Did they wear old dirty jeans?

I’ll follow one back home today
I’ll find out what they do
Then I’ll put it in a poem
That they can read to you.

Tuesday, November 22nd, 2011

Education is known to be the integral part of individual’s life. This is also an added venture that all parents should expend for sufficient time for every child education. The teacher appreciation week ideas should be well-plan because the teachers are the one who are the only proficient professionals that can facilitate merely to educate students accurately and with authorization.

By means of schooling, parents contribute to their child’s future which is the most precious business for parents to give in most efficient way; especially when their child needs special attention. Those who are entitled to have special education are intended for students with:

  • Children that differ from the others in age, ability, learning approach, and personality.
  • Children with impairments such as vision impairments and hearing loss.
  • Students with disabilities physically and psychologically retardation, which can range from mild to profound.
  • Those who have unique learning needs and require a number of special education such as specifically designed teaching, speech or language therapy, modifications to the wide-ranging education curriculum, adapted materials, or adaptive physical education.

In a way, the special education deals with every student individual needs and differences; and this process idyllically involves the systematically supervise arrangement of the procedures of instructing, their accessible classroom environment, the adapted materials and equipment, and so as other interventions.
Same to those in typical education, teachers are also part in the teacher appreciation week 2011, in which teachers surely felt the genuine feelings being appreciated by their in-needs students. In a special education, the teachers help the learners in their education with their special needs to reach a higher level of personal self-support.
In this case, these students success when the environment of the school itself and the community is available where they can access to a customary classroom education, because students with impairments and disabilities are to be expected to assist and promote from supplementary educational services.

Government Support to Teachers in the US

Monday, November 21st, 2011

Because we value our teachers, that is why teachers appreciation day exist. This profession throughout the world is acknowledged as the premier noble line of career ever. Without them no other career could be real for the total knowledge of all commence from them.

In the United States, they raised the qualifications of their candidates, train, and offer to pay them more as published by the report in US educational system. It was declared by Andreas Schleicher- the leader of the (Directorate for Education) Indicators and Analysis Division at the (OECD) Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, and is as well as a professor at University of Heidelberg in Germany -

“Despite the characterization of some that teaching is an easy job, with short hours and summers off, the fact is that successful, dedicated teachers in the U.S. work long hours for little pay and, in many cases, insufficient support from their leadership.”

With all the teachers’ effort, they deserve to appreciate during teachers day. This issue was tackled in a conference recently organized by the federal Department of Education. There are ministers and leaders of teachers’ unions gathered together from sixteen countries together with the state superintendents from 9 different states in America.

Arne Duncan, the Secretary of Education in the US, hoped that those educational leaders presented there would share their useful strategies in that conference for raising the achievement of students.

Top-scoring 3 countries in International Achievement Test are:

  1. Korea
  2. Singapore
  3. Finland

These mentioned countries recruit only high performance of college graduates for job positions in teaching, as well as supporting them with mentoring, whereas other assist in the classroom, and of course, take steps to elevate the respect for this profession. Chiefly in South Korea, they acknowledged their teachers as the ‘nation builders,’ and every teachers day they widely heed its importance.

Due to United States eagerness to support every American student’s achievement, that is why the conference was held, wherein the meeting occurs in a period when teachers’ privileges, roles and their responsibilities are being generally debated in the nation.

Certainly, no matter how the teachers give their effort but they lack support from the government, things won’t be achieving. Thus, “You can spend a lot of money on education, but if you don’t spend it wisely, on improving the quality of instruction, you won’t get higher student outcomes,” according to Mr. Schleicher.

5 Reasons to Appreciate Teachers considering it as Teacher Appreciation Ideas

Friday, November 18th, 2011

When I was browsing in the Internet, I was honestly looking for teacher appreciation ideas that would give me new insights in how to appreciate teachers. To my surprise, I actually didn’t find the ideas in it, but what I read first is the reason why we should appreciate teachers.

Wouldn’t it be suitable to know the reasons why we appreciate teachers give us the motivation to pursue giving appreciation ideas for our teachers? Well, I click the link and here are the reasons written by Susan Dunn. In fact, she specifically mentioned the name of the teacher in itself, why she appreciates these teachers. Allow me to write these personal reasons for us to know also why we should appreciate our very own teachers.

  1. He taught me to question! To use my brain and not allow myself to be spoon-fed. He told us verbs were conjugated one way on Monday, and then introduced the other way on Tuesday, saying, “And now you’re saying, ‘My teacher has lied to me.’ Well, they do!” It kept me on my toes, so to speak, and brought me into the real world where the rules don’t always apply and tricky things can happen. (Appreciating her first- year Latin teacher)
  2. He taught me how much I respect someone who stands for something and enforces it. The students had been picking on a girl I’ll call Clara. [He] sent her from class one day on an errand, and gave us a lecture about how people were going to be treated in her classroom. I can still see her pacing the floor, making her point. Things changed for Clara after that … and for me. (Appreciating her third-year Latin teacher)
  3. She cared enough to notice I was goofing off and called me on it, teaching me to respect myself. She refused to accept the half-a**** paper I had turned in, saying it was nowhere near what I was capable of producing, and told me to do it over. (Appreciating her high school English teacher)
  4. [She] gave me a role model for how a woman can live a balanced life. At the time, few women were working outside the home. She had a Ph.D. and taught full-time at the college, and also had 2 children. She invited us to her home often enough for me to see she was excellent at both. (Appreciating her college professor)
  5. He taught me how to reason. And also that when you have self-confidence you can be warm and funny. Brilliant, he was also very funny. He taught the senior Logic Seminar. No quarters! (Appreciating her college English professor)

How about you? Do you personally appreciate your teachers too? Make room to know why you appreciate your teachers this teacher appreciation week 2011 so that thinking of how you are going to appreciate them would become much easier.

Teacher Appreciation Poem is the Most Polite Keepsake

Wednesday, November 16th, 2011

Teachers in Asia and from across the globe, teach young people to free from ignorance by outfitting them knowledge in methods of reading and writing. In today’s generation, they teachers use games, computers, videos, and other useful tools to educate the student in different subjects. So, teacher appreciation gift ideas must be presented when teachers day is to celebrate.

Teacher Appreciation Poem is the Most Polite Keepsake

Gifts such as crafts are nice for souvenirs especially if this is your last period in academic of that school. But to give the most polite keepsake, the teacher appreciation poem is what you need. Take a look at the following poem elite for the teachers only.

‘Why God Made Teachers’

When God created teachers,
He gave us special friends
To help us understand His world
And truly comprehend
The beauty and the wonder
Of everything we see,
And become a better person
With each discovery.

When God created teachers,
He gave us special guides
To show us ways in which to grow
So we can all decide
How to live and how to do
What’s right instead of wrong,
To lead us so that we can lead
And learn how to be strong.

Why God created teachers,
In His wisdom and His grace,
Was to help us learn to make our world
A better, wiser place
.

(This teacher poem was created by Kevin William Huff of dltk kids)

Observe how demanding is teachers profession can be:

  • Teachers have done so many things to meet the needs of their profession. They planned their lessons as their guide to teach, they explain the information in relation to the topic, and make all lectures easy to understand so that students with different learning level can learn in the easiest way for them.
  • Teachers assign class homework and projects, which they find helpful to expand the skill of the student to learn. They even help the students when they are not doing well.
  • Kindergarten and elementary teachers teach various subjects, whilst high school teachers concentrates on one subject only. They spend more time to explain clearly their subject.

With all the pressure and the hard work that teachers necessarily accomplish week day, do you think they deserve teacher appreciation poem on teachers appreciation day?
