Since we are celebrating teacher appreciation week 2009 this is the best opportune time to look back at some experiences we have had in school during our education days, whether it be in the elementary, secondary or collegiate level. Basically, we can always recall those teachers who have helped changed our attitudes, behaviors and the way we look at things.

When I read Mr. John Gaddis’ article how remembered his favorite teachers I also said to myself that we have the same feelings. He said the Mrs. Charlotte Gladding who taught them at Pocomoke Elementary School, is indeed a very caring teacher. She will see to it that all the students understood the lessons of the day before she would consider herself successful as an educator. Mrs. Gladding would also advise them to behave correctly in the school that they would grow respectable persons.
Gaddis also remembered her favorite teacher in Math never stops telling her to do better and study his lessons everyday. She was also no other than Mrs. Gladding. When the teacher noticed he had some problems about Math the teacher would easily approach her with her very caring attitude. She would not hesitate to advise how to solve his problem on mathematics and that’s where the principal also respected and admired her previous teachers back in his education days. She even offered him to teach math even after school so that Mr.Gaddis would really understand math subject he had some difficulty answering some problems.
Many people wouldn’t exactly understand that teachers are overworked because they always went beyond official office hours just to make children understand their lessons. Unfortunately, even when these teachers are overworked they are also considered underpaid educators because of very low salaries. This problem is very evident in many countries of the world that only regard teachers as mere educators and never consider how much they are worth for such a noble task of educating. This is the main reason why teacher appreciation is also created to support them and lobby the government for more salaries and benefits.
