Teacher Appreciation in Italy

Filed under: Teacher Appreciation — @ 4:19 am

In Italy a Teacher Day or a Teacher Appreciation Week doesn’t exist. This doesn’t imply Italians don’t have acts of gratitude or don’t recognise teachers’ real value and important role in their life. On the contary, students are usually very fond of their teachers and even give to some of them a special place in their heart for ever. In Italy students express their affection above all at primary school, a place where pupils spend most of their daytime, staying there usually from 8 a.m to 2 or 4 p.m. Because of this, there are pupils who tend to consider their teachers as part of their own family, special people they can trust and rely on when they are not with their parents. At that stage, it is common among pupils to offer little presents to their teachers every now and then, such as flowers, candies or, most of the times, drawings representing themselves together with their favourite teacher. At high school students don’t give presents to their teachers but they usually liaise with them once they have finished their studies. In this way they express their interest in making the teachers feel still involved in their former students’ life. Teachers are authoritative but can be caring at the same time, and either pupils and grown up students usually recognise and appreciate it. There are theachers who can make the difference in your life not only for the knowledge they are able to convey but above all for the life insight they can provide thanks to that knowlegde and their experience. Every day can be the Teacher Day if you want to make your teachers feel special, just let them know!

Teacher Appreciation Week 2007

Filed under: Teacher Appreciation Week — admin @ 3:22 am

Since 1984 the first full week in May is established as the Teacher Appreciation Week, with Tuesday being National Teacher Appreciation Day. During this week, students honour their teachers who dedicate their knowledge, time, lives and passion to education.

May 6 – May 12 will be Teacher Appreciation Week 2007. Take special care of your beloved teachers this week, and surprise them with a gift or celebration on National Teacher Appreciation Day, May 8, 2007.

Teachers agree that good teaching is their own reward, but Teacher Appreciation Week 2007 is a great time to let educators know the contributions they make to your or your kids’ lives.

Teacher Appreciation in the UK

Filed under: Teacher Appreciation — @ 8:26 am

Whilst I was at school in England, Teacher Appreciation day was never really celebrated.  Although children would bring gifts and sometimes thank you cards at the end of each year, after reading through this site, I really do think the British should think some more about making this a more well known celebration.  Not only does it reflect the hard work put in by the teachers in the run up to the summer exam period, it also may prompt more youngsters to consider teaching as a career – something which is becoming increasingly overlooked by school leavers.

A celebratory day such as this is also a great way of building team spirit amongst class mates; whether they are discussing what gift to buy or organising a special class production.  I certainly hope it catches on!
